It's fun to draw reflections. There's a bend in the road near where we live where, when we're out walking and it's been raining, the street is transformed by the reflections on the asphalt. I have to try to paint it one of these days.

You should paint that bend in the road..if it turns out anything like this, wow.

Grace did you see this movie? It was a beautiful piece of work that is for sure. I knew as soon as I seen the first preview for it that I was going to love it because of all of the colorful wonderful graphics, even if the storyline wouldn't have been as good as it was. I have actually watched it three times as of now. Incredible lighting on this, you captured her beauty and personality!

an image and idea that keeps coming back, wanting to be drawn. I like her hair and her hands (notice the fine webbing between her fingers...) Grafight drew me a nice sketch with suggestions for making the pose more interesting but, sadly, he deleted it. It had more of the ribcage and torso showing.

Well, we've finally gotten pretty well settled into our new home/acreage on the island. It was a lot of work, still is. We're also working with a rescue organization now and taking in foster dogs that are in bad shape and need a lot of care. We had a long rainy spell and I couldn't work outside so I finally found some time to try to draw again. No ref used on this so I think it's wonky. Arms too short?
Grafight @ Friday, February 26th 2010, 9:15 AM

Yeah, the anatomy seems a little "wonky" as you say. Arms and torso might need some fixing

The contrast of muted, desaturated colour and brilliant highlights give this painting such an appealing, surreal dreamlike quality for me. It's reminding me so much of the work of a famous illustrator of children's tales...but I can't think who it is or what books. I love how textural this is, from the cat's fur to the woodgrain to the boy's tousled hair.
