....well I am doing a few a bit out of my norm, trying for that painterly look, I think perhaps not too bad...I just hate not being able to save in layers, makes for rush jobs that I am not quite satisfied with...=(

This is beautiful!! Amazing!! LOL I really like it, can you tell? It may be a bit different for you but it is very pretty and extremely well done. It doesn't look at all rushed to me.

Oh my! I love the sketchy style of this. The leaves with the veins showing are very nice. I like the texturing on the glass, like it is sweating a little from the moisture and someone did not quite wash thier windows very well. (that would never be me of course because I am a fanatical cleaner....NOT) The woodwork is also so appropriate for the glass that is in the condition that it is. I like this painting very much!!
StGeorgeOfEngland @ Wednesday, July 23rd 2008, 3:33 AM
This is great. You managed to keep your usual very detailed picture but you certainly got painterly right too. I cannot begin to say anything about individual things, I would be here all morning. It is all so good.

Lovely. I like that you're playing with your style. I believe that in order to create stunning and powerful impressionism one must be a very deft draftsman. I think if you tend to love the simplicity of Japanese painting or calligraphic imagery it feels like a natural progression to move away from very detailed 'painting' and toward the 'suggestion' and essence of a thing; our work then becomes a sort of visual poem or haiku instead of a Russian novel. lol! I love how you've done the cracked paint on the old wooden French panes. I also like the suggestion of the reflections of glass.
Meno @ Wednesday, July 23rd 2008, 12:10 PM
The delicate beauty of the blossoms against that weathered wood is such a lovely contrast :)
REECREATIVEDESIGNS @ Wednesday, July 23rd 2008, 5:53 PM
Love it! The crackled paint, making this appear to be an old stucture is really nice with all the chip'd paint. I love the moisture on the glass giving it that greenhouse feel, warm inside with ton's of moisture. The flowers are beautiful. This is really pretty...you did a wonderful job on it.

An image very close to my heart. Look at that little guy hidin' in the anemones. He looks a bit like one we used to have but I don't remember him having immunity from the anemone stings the way clown fish do. Ours was called a Catlina Goby. I love how you've drawn the anemone...especially that smooth foot. (Just checked my pics and ours was more slender and had blue stripes...I'll upload a shot of him in the Upload gallery.)

Aww, i hate it when the image shrinks to comment!! ...well, first of all, is this flower shop yours in real life? :)

Beautiful setting! It has rained and left saturated, rich color! I love how my eye travels diagonally, left to right from the flower basket to the couple to the train man and then beyond. This is really wonderful and wonderful work as well. Beautiful piece, REE! :D
REECREATIVEDESIGNS @ Saturday, July 12th 2008, 10:34 PM
Thank you all for the nice comments.

I'm happy with it and really like it myself to be honest. I've always loved street scenes with people.

No, this is not my flower shop. I'd kill the flowers if they depended on me for water and care..lol. I just thought it would be fun and I needed to place something on the left for the building. So, I thought flowers. Figured they would add nice coloring to the rest of the drawing.

If I had a business, it wouldn't be flowers. Maybe something like a "Party Planner" with much detail to a theme for an occasion. That for me would be a fun job..high end parties. Maybe I could use this draw for the napkin print..lol.

Once again, thanks for the nice words coming from each of you.

It is plain to see that Will is wearing baggy trousers and they have just ruffled up as he walks. Hehe.
Good rendition af the cover. You packed so much detail into this.Everything is so well done. I quite enjoyed the movie tho' I am not a Will Smith fan. It did remind me of a Charlton Heston film from way back where he lives in a house fortress to evade zombies (title escpaes me). oh man! I can't believe you can put all this detail and subject matter into such a small canvas!!! I think you did a marvelous job with this; I liked some of the movie, thought the end was rushed and disappointing. I love everything about this; fav parts are the buildings in the background, the shadows and perspective and all the architectural elements, the way you captured the tension and stress of the movie...dog looks very watchful..the sense that they are moving forward, quickly...not easy to do! sky...wow, so beautiful. There is one small thing I could wish you'd changed from the poster--it's too bad their feet are cut off. I'm not surprised this image grabbed you, the colours are definitely Suzie palette. I love looking at that sky. Beautiful work on the fabric folds, too. Gosh, that alone would have taken me 10 hours. And wonderful sense of depth/distance. Am I raving? yes!!! Great stuff.

This was a very exciting final. Nadal eventually prevailed. Federer came baqck from two sets down to bring it to the fifth and deciding set. The final set is decided by a two game lead rather than a tie breaker. IThe final score was 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 9-7

I love tennis aswell, you can ask me almost any trivia on it and i'll probobly know it lol Ive been to a wimbledon final b4! Everythings expensive there, its like 5 pounds for strawberries and cream thats about 10 dollar in your money :p and that was a few years a go, i would imagine its gone up.Good draw, if you look at nadals left arm in real life its twice the size of his right arm, its strange because he's naturally right handed but his coach taught him how to play with his left when he was younger because he thought his double hand backhand would benefit from a strong right arm lol He's undefeated in 28 matches at the french open and he went through a run of 81 consecutive wins on clay from april 2005 to may 2007.Obviously now he's that good he can win on grass aswell lol

What a great picture. It really captures the respect that these two sportsmen have for each other. I only watched about 5 minutes of the final but I saw enough to know what a great job you did in capturing the subjects, right down to skin tones and muscle formation. The crowd nicely out of focus to highlight the players. Good work on the shirts and the sunshine too. Great picture.

I've been looking and looking at this. The shaping and colour of his arm are so nice. Also, the shading for the folds of fabric in their shirts is wonderful. My favourite thing, though, is the emotion and expressions. Beautiful depiction of their relationship to each other. I keep starting to write a comment and then I go off and read more about them and about the match. I used to like to watch tennis but have not had a TV for nearly ten years so never see it unless I happen to be at someone's house when it's on. Maybe I can get Noel to download the finals for me.

Wow! I love his arm, the way you show the muscles and tones of skin with the reflection is outstanding. I love the shirts adn shadowing to them in the creases. Wonderful expressions on their faces. I'm not a big tennis fan, but can appreciate the sport.

And Grace...you haven't had a tv in 10 yrs? Wow! That is amazing in todays world. Granted I can live without one since I watch very, very little tv. There are more interesting things I find then sitting in front of a tv. That still blows me away..good for you.

This is a excellent drawing, amazing and down right stunning every inch of it.

This is fabulous. That guy's arm is drawn so well, it's perfect. All the shading in their shirts is fantastic! I love that shine you put on his arm, it really makes it look like he's been sweating. It is an awesome draw!

This was the most amazing match that I have seen to date in Wimbeldon. My husband even watched and was excited and he hates tennis on tv, he ranks it up there with golf and bowling on tv. lol I have to admit I was rooting for the underdog, and he won! He is now a force to be reconed with! Nice draw Gillen, so apro po.

This started out as a coloured drawing but I was losing my mind with it so I moved it to Photoshop and changed it to gray scale. The time signature is way off. It's more like 10 hours I drove myself mad with it. Doesn't really feel finished to me but I want to move on to something else. (the coloured version is down the page a bit. Decided to post it, too, so you can see the changes...it's not finished...don't smack me, Suzie!)
StGeorgeOfEngland @ Monday, July 7th 2008, 2:03 PM
OMG! Quick somebody. Get a therapist. Grace is turning into Flubbles. She is producing wonderful work and saying it doesn't look finished. From the thumbnail I was thinking just how good the grey scale shades were on this. Now I hear you did this in colour first it so that explains it. What character in this face and we can see right into his soul and character through those eyes. Amazing work.

Oh my, God blessed you with such a tallent. The textures in this face and hand are dynamic. The only thing I would do to finish this is the palm right next to his chin lookes out of place with the wonderful textures of all the other skin areas. I think the contrasting smooth area for the shirt works because it is a different part of this amazing picture!! Fabulous!
Suntan @ Monday, July 7th 2008, 2:22 PM
DANG! That skin is unbelievable! YOu can actually see the grin form the tug of it from the mouth to his cheeks! The weight of his face can be felt through a drawing! I Get that!! lol.
The texture on his face is very realistic, the dimpled skin along the jaw line and at the corners of his eyes..and creases. whoa. I really like the raised forehead creases from his eyes. Feels like he has just said something wise and witty and awaits a reply. Those glassy eyes of old age are alive, alert and laughing! Outstanding work.

You can see a whole lifetime in those amazing eyes ... he's kept his sense of humor and if you've got that, you can survive pretty much anything, I think. He wears his wrinkles and snowy hair like a well-deserved badge ... what a handsome guy! Great, great draw, Grace :)
Kathy @ Monday, July 7th 2008, 3:14 PM
I just looked at the colored one, and I like it as well as the black and white. The black and white does make it look more nostalgic though, and it also makes the highlights stand out more. But both versions are great!
Opium @ Monday, July 7th 2008, 4:57 PM
damn! That is some fantastic texture on that skin! I can only imagine trying to do wrinkles. You aced it, me thinks. Your other older person drawing of Daisy, I think it was, was great as well, but theres something about this one that I'm really drawn to. I just love the nose on this one, it has such depth, character and texture.

OOo Grace..gggrrr..I'ma watching you now..lol

Seriously though, you know I am a fan of Grey scale work and the definition you have managed to achieve with this one is so lovely. Those gorgeous wrinkles tell a thousand tales of life and all its ups and downs. I too really enjoy drawing the older faces, so much more to 'get you teeth into' as it were.
His hand seems more realistic on the this one that the other, was that a conscious thing you did grace?

Gosh I have had two tabs open and just sit here switching back and forth from this to the colour version, its' such fun to see them both and be able to compare.

I do not think we need to have a fav' of the two but if I was pushed I would say the coloured version..just because it reminds me of my granddad. :D

Gillie, I know what you mean about the smooth part of his hand looking out of place. I may work on it some more when I've had time to not be sick of looking at it. :) I thought it looked too smooth, too, although, in the photo it is very smooth. It's one of those times when, as an artist using a photo ref, I need to make the decision to forget about the photo and create something that works better. I'm really glad to see you starting to offer your CC suggestions to me and others. I believe that challenging ourselves to both give and receive constructive criticism is an excellent way to accelerate our growth as artists.

Wisdom in the eyes... a gentle mirth lurking in the smile... years of working in the sun, an obvious love for life... these are the words that speak to me as I look at this masterpiece! Haha I think we are all head-over-heels in love with Chibi. Or at least I am... It still amazes me how quickly you work. I love this painting as much as Kaula loves this statue and I really like how you used violet in the shadows. A very beautiful sky as well! =)
StGeorgeOfEngland @ Saturday, July 5th 2008, 6:45 AM
It amazes me just how well everyone seems to be adapting to Chibi (heck even I have downloaded it to my comp and have been playing). I like how the monolith is looking slightly down, accepting its hug and feeling the warmth of the love given. He has a look of sadness in his eyes that he cannot return the embrace. She looks a contented little girl that has found touch with her spirituality. I like the softness of the foreground.

That chiseled texture on the statue is so nice, and how he is looking down to her, HE LIVES in this!

Oh my. Those eyes are just so adorable but have a hint of sadness to them. The world is certainly a cruel place. Money and the love of it seems to override the need to keep nature stable, that includes the animal kingdom too. But, the west just seems to let things go on as they are, maybe if their was an interest such as oil we would be hot-footing it over there to save something.
